Netbooks (also called mini notebooks or subnotebooks) – are small, light, inexpensive laptops meant for basic computing and Internet usage. These portable players can be a very cost-effective way to bring 21st century learning into the school.
The students in grades 7 and 8 will receive the Netbook at the start of the school year and use them daily. The students will have full use of their Netbook in the classroom and at home until they are required to return it in May 2011. Students will be charged a $50 usage fee, which covers the care and maintenance of the equipment. Students will be responsible for the replacement of the Netbook if it is lost or damaged.
Textbooks will be eventually eliminated, as the text material will be downloaded to the Netbook or web-based. This will take at least two-school years to fully implement.
