2010-2011 MATHCOUNTS CLUB NEWS
And you think you have problems?...
St. Mary’s “Mathletes” will soon be again solving difficult high school level algebra, geometry, statistics, and probablility problems...because they choose to!
Some of our 7th and 8th graders will be selected to be a part of MATHCOUNTS which is a national mathematics competition for middle school students promoting student interest in Math and Science. Participation helps students to develop problem solving techniques and critical thinking skills, while having fun!
• The club is coached by Mrs. Amy Cooke.
• Our sessions will be held after school beginning in December and through January.
• The county competition is held in February in Woodhaven. We will take a team of 8 students from our club to compete with a dozen other local schools.
• The competition is sponsored by NASA, the National Society of Professional Engineers, Lockheed Martin and other science and engineering companies.
• This is our sixth year of hosting MathCounts at St. Mary’s. The past several years, our students have made it to the Top Ten Competition. In 2009, one of our students, Jacob Miller, qualified for the state competition!
• Additional information and daily math practice problems can be found on the web at www.mathcounts.org.
• Contact Coach Cooke at cooke@stmarychargers.com with any questions.
• We will post our schedule on this website for your convenience.
